This Iowa Park With A Beach, Water Trails, Campground, And Four Lakes.

George Wyth State Park is a relative unknown park in Iowa’s impressive parks system. While its a lesser known park, it still has an abundance of activities you can enjoy! George Wyth State Park is located at 3659 Wyth Road in Waterloo, Iowa. For more information, click here.

Abundant in woodlands and wildlife, George Wyth State Park is an “urban sanctuary” offering diverse outdoor activities for visitors. The park was named George Wyth State Park in 1956 after a well-known Cedar Falls businessman, and its secluded environment is the perfect get-away near the cities of Waterloo and Cedar Falls.

The park has a beautiful campground with spacious and secluded sites, some of which sit right on George Wyth Lake. The  campground, features electric and non-electric sites, modern showers and restrooms, and a trailer dump station. One-fourth of the campsites are available for self-registration on a first-come, first-serve basis and advance campsite reservations can be made online through the online reservation system for George Wyth State Park.

One of the most impressive features of the park is its beautiful trail system. The park has hiking and biking trails both paved and dirt, winding throughout the park. With more than three miles of paved, multi-use trails. Ten miles of multi-use soft trails are also available. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat tire biking are popular winter trail activities. George Wyth’s trail system is linked to a 100-mile trail network promoted by The Cedar Falls Partnership and links playgrounds, lakes, shopping districts and neighborhoods between Waterloo and Cedar Falls.

My favorite feature at the park, is the impressive water-trails. This place is an absolute paradise for kayak enthusiasts. The Cedar Valley Paddlers Loop Trail connects the chain’o’ lakes and the Cedar River, for an epic 10 mile paddle. This was one of my favorite float trips so far this year, and I’m sure you’ll love it as well.

Fishing is another popular activity enjoyed here. Cast your in one of four lakes at George Wyth including Brinker, George Wyth, Fisher and Alice Wyth lakes. Brinker Lake offers 180 acres of power boating with no wake until 9am; George Wyth Lake is a “no wake” lake with a swimming beach and universally accessible fishing pier; Fisher Lake is a 40-acre natural lake and an oxbow to the Cedar River and Alice Wyth Lake allows electric motors only across its 60 acres. Each lake contains a boat ramp and three universally accessible fishing jetties can be found around George Wyth Lake. Brinker Lake is the only boating lake in Black Hawk County.

No matter what activities you choose to partake in, You’re sure to have an epic time at George Wyth State Park. George Wyth State Park is located at 3659 Wyth Road in Waterloo, Iowa. For more information, click here.

This Gorgeous Park With A Natural Spring, Breathtaking Ruins And More!

Ha Ha Tonka State Park is one of the most amazing state parks you will find in the Midwest.  The park rests on more than 3,700 acres of rough, hilly, Ozark terrain.  Ha Ha Tonka is a popular destination for hikers looking to enjoy the 15 miles of pristine hiking trails.  The park is easy to navigate with a series of trails and boardwalks. Ha Ha Tonka State Park is located at 1491 Missouri D, in Camdenton, Missouri. For more information, click here.

The park has been referred to as a geological wonderland, with sinkholes, caves, a natural bridge, and one of the largest natural springs in the state, it’s easy to see why.

One of the park’s most popular attractions is the ruins of a turn of the century stone castle.  Construction on the castle began in 1905, but it was destroyed in 1942 by a fire.  Today all that remains are the stone ruins resting on a hilltop overlooking the Lake of the Ozarks.

With so many amazing natural features, Ha Ha Tonka is one state park you will want to visit again and again.

Don’t Miss:  While visiting Ha Ha Tonka, be sure to visit the ruins of the castle.  This area offers breathtaking views of the park as well as a unique look at history.

Logistic’s:  The park is located on the Niangua arm of the Lake of the Ozarks, approximately 5 miles south of Camdenton Missouri.

Best Time:  Its always a great time to visit the park, however my favorite time to visit is during the fall, when the leaves begin to change color.

Pit Stop:  Every time i’m in the area, I stop into Pepperoni Bills Pizzeria in nearby Camdenton.  Sandwiches, salads, wings and delicious mouth watering pizza.  Pepperoni Bills is one of those places that’s worth a trip from anywhere.

Extended Play: Book a stay at the Margaritaville Resort, and cool off at the Jolly Mon Indoor Waterpark. Located on the Lake Of The Ozarks.

Travel Smart:  When hiking i always suggest bug spray, and sunscreen.  Comfortable shoes are also a must.  I also suggest checking weather conditions before and during your hike, there is nothing worse then getting stuck out on a hike during in climate weather.
