As we all know, the Midwest is loaded with 100’s of incredibly beautiful destinations! However, in my travels, I have found 10 that stand out slightly above the rest.
Witches Gulch- Dells Wisconsin
Witches Gulch is a spectacular and spooky walk through a narrow canyon carved by wind and water and filled with fern glens, shadowy passages and hidden whirlpool chambers. At Stand Rock, you’ll walk to the base of this imposing pillar of sandstone, then watch as high above you, a trained dog makes the famous leap from cliff face to Stand Rock and back again. Blue Spring-
Missouri is absolutely loaded with incredible natural springs. However there is one that has incredible sapphire blue water it doesn’t even look real. However Blue Spring near Eminence is 100% real. You don’t have to guess how it earned its name. Blue Spring is 14 miles east of Eminence or 14 miles west of Ellington off of State Route 106. For more information, click here. In an area just loaded with gorgeous sites, Blue Springs Natural Area still stands out above the rest. Just follow the Blue Spring Trial path to the most stunning sapphire blue water you have ever seen! The spring is one of the deepest in the United States reaching depths of 310 feet in some areas. Blue Spring is accessible all year, but is most beautiful in the fall while the leaves are changing color and in the spring when the wildflowers bloom.
Hocking Hills-Ohio
Cedar Falls are fairly narrow but have become one of the most visited falls in Ohio State. That is because they are family-friendly and offer the chance to cool off on a hot day. Their appearance changes by the season with the flow of water. Inside the state park, you will see caves and cliffs around this 50-foot waterfall. Visitors facilities are excellent and have led to even greater numbers coming, without the environment being spoilt in the least.The trails are good and cyclists can explore the park at their leisure – all stop to look at the falls. This waterfall can be found in Hocking Hills State Park.
Maquoketa Caves-Maquoketa Iowa
The park features 16 accessible caves, which offer great caving for experienced and inexperienced cavers alike. The hiking trails are just over 6 miles in length, and are a great way to see the park. There is also a campground with 29 campsites, 17 of which have electrical hookups. This beautiful state park is one of the most popular in the entire state. Located in Jackson County, sitting just Northwest of Maquoketa. The park rests on more then 360 acres of rough, hilly terrain. Willow River Falls-Wisconsin
Willow River State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors to enjoy year-round. Willow River State Park is located at 1034 Co Hwy A, in Hudson, Wisconsin. For more information, click here. The highlight of the park is no doubt the impressive Willow River Gorge, and the stunning Willow Falls. This area is one of the most gorgeous spots in the entire Midwest. Its also a popular destination during the summer months, as the area around the falls is a fun spot to get wet and cool off in the water. Willow River State Park is open year round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Cave Spring- Eminence Missouri
Located on the Current River, Cave Spring has a long history of usage as a fishing, picnicking and canoe rest spot, but has never been commercially developed. The spring rises a short canoe paddle into a large cave opening on the Current River, from a vertical shaft 140 feet deep. The spring itself is a favorite fishing spot. During underwater survey, a Native American dugout canoe was discovered on the bottom of the spring. For more information, click here.
Minneopia Falls-Mankato Minnesota
Minnesota’s third oldest state park is home to a newly re-established American Bison herd. Enjoy a fun day of exploring Minneopa State Park filled with natural and historical features, including Southern Minnesota’s largest waterfall. Minneopa Falls checks in at a stunning 60 feet in height. The park is located off U.S. Highway 169 and State Highway 68, five miles west of Mankato Minnesota.
Sylvan Lake-South Dakota
Sylvan Lake is probably the most recognizable of the five Custer State Park lakes, and of any of the Black Hills lakes for that matter. Its definitely a favorite of almost anyone who has seen it, especially photographers, artists or anyone that saw the Nicolas Cage movie “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets” (although the location may seem off). Sylvan Lake is a very popular spot for weddings and other special occasions or as the most beautiful swimming hole one could possibly find. Lost Cave Nature Trail-Ridgedale Missouri
Experience the unforgettable two-and-a-half-mile journey on an electric cart as you explore the Top of the Rock Lost Canyon and Nature Trail. This dramatic trail was created to highlight stunning rock formations, waterfalls and views of Table Rock Lake. Don’t forget to stop at the Bat Bar for a fresh glass of lemonade. The Apostle Islands are located in Northern Wisconsin on beautiful Lake Superior near the town of Bayfield Wisconsin.
