Plan A Visit To Ponds Hollow Beach And Recreation Area In Southern Illinois

A picturesque setting, Pounds Hollow campground and lake are tucked away amongst the Shawnee Hills, where you can relax and get away from it all. Completed in the early 1940’s, Pounds Hollow Lake is popular for the same reasons it was 60 years ago and continues to provide opportunities to picnic, fish, swim, camp and hike. The Pine Ridge Campground is located on the ridge-top above Pounds Hollow Lake and offers 13 electric sites and 22 non-electric campsites, each with a picnic table, lantern pole and fire ring with grill.  Water spigot is located at the campground entrance across from pay station.  20, 30 & 50 amp at electric campsites.

Day-use Activities: At 25 acres, Pounds Hollow Lake is large enough to provide its many visitors some seclusion during their visit. This day-use area offers swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating and hiking. No public boat ramp is available.  There are several lakeside picnic sites, plus a fishing pier and a large picnic shelter overlooking the beach.

Lake and Pond Fishing: This 25 acres Lake was built in 1940 and provided much sought after pastimes, before the electronic gadgets of today.  There is a fishing pier just below the parking lot. In addition to the pier, shoreline fishing is good on the southwest side of the Lake.  A small dirt trail leads to the other side of the lake, but the trail is dense with vegetation and casting is more difficult on that side of the Lake.

Only small boats and electric motors are allowed on the lake. The lake contains largemouth bass, channel catfish and sunfish. The tranquil surroundings of the area are a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the outdoors.

This home has an oversized screened in porch just steps from jumping in, launching kayaks or taking off on your boat. This porch area has a table that sits 6 and also 2 couches with 2 chairs. Do some early morning yoga or just enjoy the beauty of the river as manatees, otters, and all types of fish swim by. If you’re lucky you just might see Chip the dolphin as you enjoy your morning coffee.

As a guest at the Main River Paradise, You’ll have access to:

Paddle up river to find the preserve untouched and just amazing, If you take an early morning kayak trip you just might see the deer crossing the river. You can also paddle to Rogers Park and stop at Upper Deck for lunch.
If you are adventurous, you can explore old Florida which is where the Weeki Wachee River and Mud River join.

The surrounding area has so much to offer, Njoy Spirits Distitary, Pine Island (beautiful sunsets), Bayport Pier (good fishing), Linder Pendersen Park (great lookout tower) are some of many. You’ll be 56 miles from Bush Gardens, Tampa Airport and downtown Tampa, Florida. Disney World in Orlando is 91 miles away. Lego Land in Winter Haven, FL is 69 miles away. If you’re looking for closer trips enjoy Crystal River downtown area, Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, Clearwater Beach, and Dunedin downtown or Honeymoon Island for breath taken beaches.

As with any home on the water there’s no lifeguard on duty and you will be swimming, kayaking, and boating at your own risk.
